Wine of the Month

Gouguenheim Rosé de Malbec

Sale priced at $6.99!! (Regularly $8.99)

Rosés are getting so much attention these days, and for good reason!  They possess the depth and complexity of red wine, with the refreshing minerality, mouthfeel and serving temperature of white wine.  It'’s a natural choice for all sorts of summer fare, a perfect match for both barbecue and fresh salads.  Contrary to popular belief, most rosés are very dry (the popularity of white zinfandel in the 80s was the major cause of this misunderstanding).  And aside from the ones with the absolute best
pedigrees, rosés make incredibly affordable wines which are nowadays being produced in nearly every wine region of the world!

All of the grapes for this beautiful summer Wine of the Month come from the Tupungato area of
Mendoza, Argentina.  It hails from one of the shop’s most beloved producers, Gouguenheim Winery.  The Gouguenheim Rosé de Malbec is a small production wine (3000 cases) made from the grape famous for putting Argentina on the map as a winemaking country.  It is a beautiful color, with aromas of
strawberry and red cherries.  A little bit of spice dances around on the palate and the finish is long, clean and dry.  This is simply perfect for the dog days of summer, especially with its $6.99 price tag!!

Hops & Vines Wine Selection We feel that the best thing we can do when choosing wines for the shop is act as your eyes and ears (and taste buds!). With so much wine out there, we like to think of ourselves as a filter, bringing you what best represents each major region or varietal, at prices we can all afford. We support producers who treat our earth gently and we particularly enjoy buying wines from winemakers who have an inspiring vision. We listen to what’s out there and we’re aware of the latest wine trends, but we also listen to you! We have fun hearing about what you love and what you’re looking for, and then matching your occasion with a perfect bottle (or two!). It is our goal to send you home with something you love every time!

Upcoming Wine Tastings

Wine Tasting this Saturday, September 6th, from 2pm - 5pm
Portugal and South America

Come join us and our friend Mark Fields from Ararat Distributing as we
explore 2 whites and 2 reds from Portugal and South America, two regions
that are known for their amazing quality-to-price ratio wines!

NV Alianca Vinho Verde, Branco, Portugal -The granitic soil, the
climactic conditions and the grape varieties of the Vinho Verde region
of northwest Portugal give this famous wine its special characteristics
of crisp fruit and delicate aroma. Lightness and freshness make this low
alcohol crisp white wine ideal by itself and as a perfect complement to
seafood, hors d’oeuvres, chicken and veal. Try it with stir frys, spicy
dishes and oysters.

2005 Alianca Dao Reserva, Portugal - Exceptional value for one of the best
vintages ever. A lush, quaffable red with pretty cherry & blueberry
flavors. Cardamom notes on the finish. It ages at least 18 months in cask and
6 months in the bottle before release as a Reserva, rounding and
smoothing the wine. Matches well with hearty meats, strong cheeses, pasta with rich
sauces.

2007 Echeverria Sauvignon Blanc, Molina, Chile – Lemon, apples, fresh
cut grass and green pepper, this example of Sauv Blanc is packed to the
gills with bright flavor. This is a white wine that will carry over well
to the cooler nights that are soon to be in store!

2006 Domaine Jean Bousquet Malbec, Tupungato, Argentina –This wine has
an opaque violet, almost black color. It is elegant, silky and plush red
wine with intense, rich aromas of blackberry fruit.
